Five Easy Steps to a Qigong Home Practice
Deborah Belaus | AUG 7, 2023

Qigong is an energy-based natural protocol derived from the ancient practice of Chinese Traditional Medicine. Energy is referred to as Qi. This is the idea that an active and intelligent force within the human body instinctively maintains and repairs each person’s health. Life is about energy management. Everything is energy, and it wants to move, and it has to move. Aging is learning how to handle this energy, repairing what was damaged while restoring the vitality lost over the years. If our energetic system is out of balance, the body starts to break down. A daily qigong self-care practice can help avoid this disequilibrium.
Learning Qigong is very easy and practical. I offer live Zoom classes and videos sharing my knowledge of this beautiful and ancient system. The most important aspect of my teachings is turning you to the fundamental principle of listening to your body. You are your own best teacher and healer. Qigong is a complete practice because it goes beyond just physical movements. It takes you to a place of rest and renewal to calmly reflect on what depletes you and what restores you physically, mentally, and spiritually, being your steward for your wellness and transformation.
Qigong is a natural remedy for health based on five elements: Wood, fire, earth, metal, and water. Each element correlates to a season broken down into five seasons: spring (wood), early summer (fire), late summer (earth), fall (metal), and winter (water). This 5 Element Theory creates or regulates the next element, such as:
Wood generates Fire (Burning wood generates fire) Spring
Fire generates Earth (Ash is made from the fire). Early Summer
Earth generates Metal (Metal is mined from the earth) Late Summer
Metal generates Water (Water condenses on metal) Fall
Water generates Wood (Rain nourishes a tree) Winter
The 5 Elemental Theory can be used for just about anything living. It also relates to 5 major organs: The liver, heart, spleen, lung, and kidneys.
Liver (wood, spring), Heart (fire, early summer), Spleen (earth, late summer), Lung (metal, fall), Kidney (water, winter).
I have used this five basic theory for the home practice sequence because it supports and gives structure as you build on each element. I call this sequence:
If you want to live a life in motion that repairs and restores your whole person, the most beneficial practice is learning the Art of Energy Cultivation (Qigong). It is rich in its antiquity and structured to follow the season's pearls of wisdom.
Qigong helps train your mind/body awareness, allowing you to establish a better connection to yourself. You are your own best healer.
